Numbering begins anew with each section. The old Kentish family of Brockman whose estates the existing house (formerly Drake) inherited under the will of James Brockman in 1767, appears upon record as early as the time of King Richard II. Among the Patents enrolled in the Tower, of the 13th year of that Monarch's reign, there is a grant to John Brockman of the Manor of Pirrie, extending to the Old Romney and Medley, with other lands in Stowting and Crundale which vested in the Crown on the attainder of Sir Robert Belknap.[1] [1] Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage. Mary Brockman, born c.1411, Pirrie Manor, Kent.[5,6,13] Source [5] gives Mary's place of birth as Barham, Kent, but this is likely an incorrect guess; her husband was born there.
